Lufthansa Technik Maintenance International (LTMI) and easyJet have signed a contract for extensive collaboration at London Gatwick Airport (LGW). With a fleet of 55 aircraft, Gatwick is the largest base for the low-cost airline. As part of this five-year collaboration, Lufthansa Technik (as the Part 145 maintenance organization) will handle Light Base Maintenance (LBM) inputs and AOG hangar support for the Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft fleet as well as the A320neo in the future.

Brendan McConnellogue, easyJet's Head of Maintenance, comments: "In addition to the hangar build itself, a tender was run to select a suitable partner to provide the maintenance services. easyJet's existing partner in Milan Malpensa and Berlin Schoenefeld, Lufthansa Technik, were selected and a ground breaking five year contract has been signed which sees Lufthansa Technik opening their first UK hangar based operation. The on site team will deliver two inputs every night, seven days a week and provide AOG hangar support as required."

Ulrich Hollerbach, Chief Executive Officer of LTMI, comments: "This partnership project builds on and continues the successful cooperation between easyJet and Lufthansa Technik over the past years. Work for easyJet under the new contract commenced recently. Lufthansa Technik has a staff of about 60 mechanics on-site who executes two checks per night, seven days a week.

In the presence of his Excellency the Maltese Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muscat low-cost carrier easyJet and Lufthansa Technik AG signed a substantial base maintenance contract in the Maltese capital Valletta. More than 100 aircraft of the airline's A320 family will be serviced by Lufthansa Technik Malta during the next five years.

Ian Davies, easyJet Director of Engineering, commented on the signing of the contract: "Based on our experience with Lufthansa Technik in Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Milan and Sofia and the cooperation we recently started at the Gatwick Airport, we are convinced of the quality of the base maintenance services we can expect from Lufthansa Technik Malta."

Marcus Motschenbacher, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Malta, adds: "We are delighted about the new contract. It expands our partnership with one of the world's leading low-cost carriers and strengthens our market position. This contract is of major importance for our facility. More than 100 employees will work directly or indirectly for easyJet aircraft. It will allow us to increase the workforce by at least 50 new colleagues."

Stephan Drewes, Lufthansa Technik Vice President Production Network Aircraft Base Maintenance, underlines: "We are very happy that easyJet awarded Lufthansa Technik with the base maintenance of their fleet. This is an important contract for the entire network with works to be performed in our facilities in both Sofia and Malta. I trust the expertise and engagement of the Lufthansa Technik Malta staff to deliver up to the expectations and beyond. Malta is a cornerstone in our base maintenance network."

Malgré des négociations intensives sur les réductions essentielles des coûts , les partenaires n'ont pu trouver une solution qui rendrait possible une suite commercialement viable de Révision d'Avion à Hambourg. À cause des conséquences étendues de cette décision, le Comité de direction a prolongé à plusieurs reprises le cadre des discussions et des négociations pour rendre une solution possible.

Environ 300 des environ 400 emplois au site de Hambourg dans le dock et les ateliers associés sont affectés par la fermeture.
Les salariés seront assignés à d'autres unités opérationnelles ou leurs sera offerte des alternatives, départ en pré retraite...

La révision d'avion à Hambourg a été sous pression de coût significative pendant quelque temps. Le temps de travail au sol, particulièrement pour le Groupe de Lufthansa, a toujours été effectué ici, récemment sur un seul dock. Étant donné que de telles heures sont planifiées pour des années à l'avance, les avions peuvent être pris en compte partout dans le monde pour être révisés..

Dans l'avenir, Lufthansa Technik offrira la révision d'avion à ses emplacements internationaux de Budapest, Sofia, Shannon, la Malte, Porto Rico et Manille.

Munich-based CityLine tells FlightGlobal it has decided to gradually wind down operations at the facility, which is focused on heavy checks for the carrier's Bombardier CRJ900 and Embraer E-Jet fleet.
It says management has, together with staff and union representatives, attempted to implement efficiency measures over the course of several years. But, it adds, other maintenance providers are still able to offer services at "significantly more competitive terms".
The facility is used mainly to support CityLine's fleet, with third-party customers accounting for only a minor proportion of volume.
Some 130 people are employed at the site. CityLine does not rule out compulsory redundancies, but says it will seek "socially acceptable" solutions, including staff reduction through natural attrition and offers of job opportunities elsewhere at CityLine or Lufthansa Group.
CityLine's maintenance operations in Frankfurt and Munich will not be affected by the Cologne site's closure, says the airline.
Where the CRJ900s and Embraer E-Jets will be serviced in future has not yet been decided.

NEW HANGAR FOR LUFTHANSA TECHNIK SOFIA bookmark

Lufthansa Technik Sofia has opened a new hangar, office and multifunctional building at Sofia Airport, becoming the largest base maintenance facility in Eastern Europe.
The Bulgarian subsidiary will also be the largest base maintenance site of Lufthansa Technik in Europe.

The total investment in the project amounts to approximately €35 million invested together with joint venture partner Bulgarian Airways Group. The funds were used for the construction of the new six-level multifunctional building, combining hangar, offices and workshop areas. The new expansion will lead to an increase in production lines and further growth of the central service departments which are serving the worldwide Lufthansa Technik network of base maintenance facilities from Sofia. That means a 60% capacity increase or 1 million man-hours in total per year, as well as a 30% increase in the number of employees in Sofia to 1,300 people.

The modern facility of Lufthansa Technik Sofia will be able to accommodate and service eight narrowbody aircraft for base maintenance simultaneously, as well as one aircraft in a nose-in position for services such as cabin modifications. The service spectrum reaches from line maintenance to IL/D checks and includes a full range of additional services, such as aircraft painting, special interior works and AOG support. Two of the bays have full paint capability.

The company specialises in the overhaul and maintenance of Airbus A320 family and soon to include A320neo, as well as the Boeing 737 (Classic and NG) aircraft series. Lufthansa Technik Sofia’s specialists also carry out line maintenance of various types of aircraft, including the Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and Embraer E-Jets.

Lufthansa Technik has reached an agreement with the bodies of co-determination and its operating partners to introduce short-time working.
This applies to all German sites and companies with the exception of Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey (LTAA) and Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services (LBAS).
The agreement thus applies to around 12,000 employees and will initially run until 31 August 2020.
Managerial staff will also be put on short-time work due to the extensive reduction in workload. Lufthansa Technik AG will top up their short-time working allowance to 80 percent of their net salary.
Wherever possible in the respective countries, more than 30 international subsidiaries and affiliates of the Lufthansa Technik Group will seek similar arrangements

Lufthansa Technik has extended its partnership with Norwegian Air Shuttle for another five years. The maintenance and repair subsidiary of Lufthansa will overhaul the airline’s fleet of 90 Boeing 737NGs. Work is set to take place at Lufthansa Technik’s base in Budapest, Hungary, and will begin this September.
